The fierce battle at Roswaal Mansion continues. In Garfiel vs. Elsa, Garfiel lands fatal blows on her again and again, but Elsa won't go down. Why is she so tough...? For the details, check the bonus novel included with the Blu-rays!
Guiltylaw-san!
When you talk about modern knowledge in an isekai, it's mayonnaise and dust explosions. Well, Re:Zero is an isekai too. So we went ahead and did it.
The oil Otto and Petra threw is the same oil used to burn Petelgeuse at the end of season 1. It's what Otto brought when he came to suck up to Roswaal, hoping Roswaal would buy it from him because he couldn't sell it and was on the verge of bankruptcy.
Oil as the decisive factor in both anime season 1 and season 2...
...That was the last sight of Subaru they saw.
Meanwhile, the third 'Trial' begins: face the calamity that will one day come.
Scenes of the past, the present, and a future different from both. To put it simply, it's a preview of future developments, but recording this part was an absolute nightmare. After all, the scenes hadn't even been written yet, so we had to ask everyone to perform with guidance like, "It's probably this kind of scene...?"
What kind of direction is, "It's probably this kind of scene...?"
He arrives at the tea party, but Echidna isn't there. Instead, waiting for him is the one "Witch" among the Witches he can talk to.
Since Emilia is taller than Minerva, the image of her pressing down on a slightly higher-up head with her finger is kind of funny.
Emilia-tan seems like the type who'd be told not to look in The Crane's Return of Favor, but wouldn't be able to resist and would look anyway.
By the way, in the web version, Sekhmet was waiting here, so it's a useful scene for smoking out people who've only read the web version.
At the end of the tomb scene, I had absolutely no idea what exactly was happening, so I said something troublesome like, "I don't really know, but picture some amazing glowing magic circles stretching out!" and had them make this image.
Just vaguely, but the little "eya!" when she shatters the spell kind of feels like a sign of Emilia-tan's personality going forward. But I remember this part being oddly difficult during dubbing. Like, loosen up more! Make it sillier!
The mansion burning was something Elsa's side hadn't expected either, so when Garfiel saw the mansion on fire, he knew Subaru and the others had won. Well, Petra and Otto were the ones who set it on fire.
From here on, Otto and Petra will keep getting needled by Ram as "the duo who burned down the mansion."
"Sword Saint Reid would draw his sword and laugh before a dragon" is an idiom meaning someone's a dangerously crazy person you shouldn't go near. As for what kind of person Reid-san actually is, you'll find out as you keep reading the original story.
A fierce battle between a brother-sister duo and a sister-brother duo. Garfiel talks like this is his first battle, but this really shows the difference from Subaru's first battle...
He had no choice but to beast-transform since it became a pure contest of strength with the rock pig, but basically, when Garfiel transforms, he loses his reason and his fighting style becomes simple and one-note, so after learning from his loss against Ram and Otto, he tries not to transform.
In the world of Re:Zero, a "vampire" does not mean a race with eternal life that lives by sucking blood. It refers to a special kind of being with powerful vitality and an undying body.
Meili screams as the ceiling collapses. If Elsa hadn't been distracted by that, she would have used the shard of glass she was hiding to deal Garfiel a fatal wound, and Elsa would have won.
In her final moment, what Elsa remembered as she looked at Garfiel was the warmth of the first time she ever killed someone.
Meanwhile, continuing from before: Roswaal vs. Ram & Puck!
After ending his contract with Emilia, Pack is operating in a stray spirit state using only the mana he absorbed from Garfiel's body when Subaru drove the crystal stone into him during the Garfiel fight, plus his own stored mana.
Just like when Roswaal previously beat Garfiel to death, Roswaal isn't just powerful with magic, he's also extremely skilled in hand-to-hand combat. He's worth a hundred Subarus.
Roswaal thinks Ram's goal is to kill him for not stopping the destruction of the oni village. Since that's what he believed even after spending ten years together, Ram must have suffered a great deal through all that time with her feelings never getting across, and it's ironic that this becomes the deciding factor here.
Just like with Rem, Ram also gets an insert song in the episode where she confesses... these sisters.
By the way, Puck being able to freely change his size was foreshadowed back when he was giving Subaru a lap pillow in Episode 1 of Season 1. Does anyone remember that?
Ram's victory condition isn't defeating Roswaal. It's "taking Roswaal away from the Witch's obsession."
And with that, Garfiel vs. Elsa and Ram & Pack vs. Roswaal are settled! That leaves only Subaru vs. Beatrice and Emilia vs. ???. Look forward to it!
I'm grateful to the staff and cast every single time, but especially this time, because of the 'Trials,' we received help from an incredible number of cast members even though this was their only appearance in season 2... thank you so much!
