All right! It's time for this week's Re:Zero! Last time was a story about a happy past. Let's close our eyes for the last minute and enjoy what comes next! Please and thank you!
The Day Betelgeuse Laughed

The three Ryuzus, Alma, Bilma, and Delma, are the Ryuzu-san wearing black clothes. The Ryuzu in white clothes, Shima, entered the Tomb in the past to take Garfiel out, and because that made her a different kind of existence from the other three, she ended up removed from the rotation.
Basically, Garfiel was the only one who knew of Shima-san's existence and spent time with her periodically over those ten years. The other Ryuzu-sans knew Shima was alive, but it was more that they were unable to meet with her.
You could call this the time when "Sanctuary" had just been created, or a stage where they were still in the middle of making it. The one accompanying the Echidna who made it is the cheeky Beatrice.
The original Ryuzu was Ryuzu Meyer, and as has been pointed out since Ryuzu-san first appeared, if you pay attention to the ears, you'll see from the common trait shared by the people in "Sanctuary" that their race is half-elf.
I guess they just have nothing to do in "Sanctuary" and get bored. Like being the kind of person who can kill time forever at one of those little amusement parks on a department store rooftop.
Appearing before us is Roswaal A. Mathers. You can tell just by looking at him that the blood runs strong.
The four hundred years the original Ryuzu lived were, in short, the era when the "Witch of Envy" was rampaging and then being stopped, so testimony from someone who actually lived through that time is both rare and precious. As for the witches, well, just as you saw at Echidna's tea party, they roam around comparatively freely.
Aaaah! Regulus-san, stop grumbling and just go home!!
I feel like there'd be plenty of resentment there.
The newly introduced girl called Pandora. I doubt the characters can stand her airy way of speaking and thinking, but the author likes it.
By the way, the hair color settings are: "Emilia (young and old), Fortuna / silver hair," "Echidna, Regulus / white hair," and "Pandora / platinum."
That soft, hollow sort of effect over Pandora-sama's whole body feels extremely fitting and works really well.
Some names came up that sound kind of familiar and kind of not, but you can remember them if you want, or forget them if you want.
What threw Regulus around, after nothing had worked on him until now, was the "Unseen Hand" that no one else could see. It's a little satisfying to finally see that flustered look on his face.
Juice was called "Petelgeuse Romanée-Conti," but if you're wondering why he calls himself Juice, you can figure out the answer by looking into Betelgeuse a little. Or you could watch Universal Monsters Live at USJ.
By the way, the strongest among the Sin Archbishops is the one you're seeing here: Regulus Corneas. Even if all the other Sin Archbishops teamed up, they still couldn't beat him. Though of course, Sin Archbishops would never team up in the first place.
I really like this part with Arch. His screen time is short, but he says a lot of important things.
It's a very childlike way of thinking, but when something bad happens, young Emilia thinks, "It's because I broke a promise, because I was a bad girl." Like Fortuna's words last time, this is another reason why Emilia clings so strongly to promises.
Arch mentioned the "Black Serpent," and that's the last of the Three Great Mabeasts. That makes "White Whale / Great Rabbit / Black Serpent."
Not just the decisiveness to instantly cut off and freeze his own leg, but Arch is also a very capable young elf. It's easy to see why Fortuna entrusted Emilia to him to protect. He has both the ability and the resolve for it. Unlike that guy in this week's Jump who sold out his lord in seconds.
As you can probably tell from the way Pandora acts and speaks, she is a "philanthropist."
"Doesn't it make you feel anything?" "It pisses me off so much."
Pandora-sama is only wearing that single piece of cloth draped over her, but that's probably because she loves things "just as they are." Even so, the reason she still wears cloth is out of consideration for the beloved others.
The ruined forest, the ground, even the torn-off arm being restored was the effect of Pandora's extraordinary Authority. Also, "mistaken for something else" had quotation marks around it.
The subtitle, "The Day the Heike Star Smiled," uses Heike Star, which is the Japanese name for the star Betelgeuse. In this case, it refers to the smile he showed when he saw off the precious girl just before taking in the Witch Factor to let Emilia escape. Even within Re:Zero, it's one of the author's favorite subtitles.
It felt like the ending was flowing in a way that suggested something good was about to happen, and yet...
Pandora-sama may look like she can do anything, but there are rules. Well, she is one of the hardest people to kill (though all the Sin Archbishops are).
Alright, thanks again for this week! The events that happened in Emilia's forest in the past, and then the past of "Sanctuary" being told. While revealing old mysteries, the story heads toward its finale. Well then, please keep supporting us!
